There's Great Organizations Like the Packers, and There's Boneheaded Ones like the Bears

Image
Chris Brooks (left) Tyrique Stevenson (right)                Once again on Sunday, we saw the difference between a great organization and a bad one. The great obviously being the Green Bay Packers. The Packers in the face of adversity, gutted out another victory against the Jaguars without Jordan Love. Everyone’s talking about the game-winning field goal from Brandon McManus, but another man deserves some serious recognition: running back Chris Brooks, an undrafted second-year player. Signed to the Packers’ practice squad in September after a stint with the Dolphins, he suited up for only his second game on Sunday. Brooks has performed great in the snaps he's gotten for the Packers as a blocker, pass-catcher, and runner. He also has never scored an NFL touchdown, and at the end of the game, he had his chance on his last carry. Instead, he chose to go down around the 3-4 yard line, letting the clock tick down so the Packers could control the l...

Josh Jacobs Had a Monster Day as the Packers Hold Off the Jaguars with Another Game-Winning Field Goal

Image
Evan Siegle, packers.com               What a Sunday. The entire NFL slate was incredible, and the Packers' win was even sweeter with the Bears losing on a last-second Jayden Daniels Hail Mary. Shoutout to the Commanders, who’ve clearly found their guy. Jayden Daniels Hail Mary but with Celine Dion singing pic.twitter.com/PN3Bh2CDRq — Pardon My Take (@PardonMyTake) October 28, 2024 Now, onto the Packers, who didn’t play their best but got the job done anyway. The Packers squeaked past the Jags down in Florida, thanks to a monster game from Josh Jacobs and another game-winner from Brandon McManus against his former team. Remember when people were saying Josh Jacobs was washed? Crazy how good this guy is right? Other than Jacobs, this one was ugly offensively, with injuries piling up, especially to Jordan Love, who left after battling a nagging groin all day. He didn't look his best today and you could clearly tell something was wrong. Props to him fo...

Victory Monday: Interceptions Don't Matter

Image
Evan Siegle, packers.com Interceptions don’t matter! (When you win, obviously.) That’s exactly what happened Sunday when the Packers beat the Texans. When’s the last time bad offense got bailed out by good defense in Green Bay? It’s been forever since a fan, let alone a Packers fan, could say that. Jordan Love threw two picks and so what? You’ve gotta take risks to win, and he’s proven he’s willing to. He’s thrown multiple touchdowns in every game this season and leads the league in TD passes. Add to that, the Packers are sitting at 5-2, even with him missing two games. Oh, and by the way, MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes is tied for most INTs with a negative TD-INT ratio and is still 6-0. Interceptions don’t matter as long as your QB shows up in crunch time. The current betting favorite for NFL MVP: * Leads league in interceptions * 21st in TD passes * 15th in pass yards per game * 14th in pass yards per attempt * 16th in QBR * 23rd in passer rating * 6 wins, 0 losses — Adam Levitan (...

Real Packer Fans Know: Why We Should Defend the White-Out Uniforms for the Upcoming Texans Game

Image
Packers Twitter has been making me sick since the release of these new white-out uniforms. Look, the Packers’ traditional look is iconic and probably the most classic uniform in football. It just screams “football.” But I don’t get all the hate. A white-out uniform is one of the cleanest alternate designs you can roll out, and the Packers nailed it. Yeah, maybe the timing was a little off. A “Winter Warning” in October when it’s 70+ degrees? Sure, not ideal, but let’s be real: these uniforms still slap. the packers’ “winter” uniforms with the white helmet are gross. they stink. they stink even more knowing they’re being worn in an october home game being played at noon when it should be in primetime. the whole thing was botched — Zachary Jacobson (@zacobson) October 16, 2024 *Texans-Packers uniform matchup is sh*t. https://t.co/z2RWBsSJLA — ᑭᖇO ᖴOOTᗷᗩᒪᒪ ᒍOᑌᖇᑎᗩᒪ 🏈 (@NFL_Journal) October 17, 2024 Packers HC Matt LaFleur on the team's "Winter Warning" uniforms and conce...

Jordan Love Is All the Way Back After the Packers Whomped the Cardinals 34-13

Image
Evan Siegle, packers.com             The Packers straight-up DOMINATED the Cardinals on Sunday. This is the squad we've been dying to see. Offense humming, defense snatching balls, and Jordan Love? He’s officially all the way back (not like he ever really left).             Love was great. He looked cool and calm in the pocket tossing dimes all day long. After the injury scare, we needed a full game from him, and he gave us just that. He threw 22/32 for four touchdowns and a 119.5 passer rating. That’s back-to-back 4 TD games, something a Packers QB hasn’t done since Brett Favre in 1995. Final Line for QB1 • 22 of 32 passing • 258 yards • 4 touchdowns • 1 interception • W pic.twitter.com/SsDty5uksS — IKE Packers Podcast (@IKE_Packers) October 13, 2024 Jordan Love's four TD passes today make it the first time a Packers QB has thrown four TDs in consecutive home games since Brett Favre in 1995. — Matt ...

Packers vs. Cardinals Preview: Lambeau Field Mudbowl?

Image
Evan Siegle, packers.com The Packers take on the Cardinals this weekend at Lambeau and it might get a little sloppy. How do they get it done on Sunday? Well for starters, they need to contain Kyler Murray, who runs around like a toddler who just stole your iPhone. He just put up 83 rushing yards and a TD last week against the 49ers. The defense also needs to watch out for James Conner, a workhorse at 4.6 yards per carry. Devonte Wyatt’s probably out, so we need the defensive line to step up in this game. This feels like a Rashan Gary game. He’s been called out by the media (also by me), and I think he’s due for a monster game. Also they should just rush five every single time because it seems to work out just fine. According to ESPN Analytics, the #Packers have the worst pass rush win rate in the NFL. Meanwhile, they have the best pressure rate when bringing 5+ rushers. Conclusion: Never stop blitzing. — Eli Berkovits (@BookOfEli_NFL) October 11, 2024 On the injury front, the sec...

Everyone’s Raving About the Packers’ Secondary, But What About Their Defensive Front?

Image
Evan Siegle, packers.com There’s no doubt, the talk of the Packers’ defense this season has been their secondary. Specifically, Xavier McKinney, an early Defensive Player of the Year candidate. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, McKinney has an interception in every game this season and now has six total takeaways after a fumble recovery against the Rams. He’s so good. Xavier McKinney is DIFFERENT pic.twitter.com/Nbsk4DIitG — NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) October 6, 2024 5️⃣ straight games with an interception for Xavier McKinney!! An unreal start in GB for 5th-year safety. 📺: #GBvsLAR on CBS/Paramount+ 📱: https://t.co/waVpO8ZBqG pic.twitter.com/I9sIlUdd9B — NFL (@NFL) October 6, 2024 But here’s what the big issue is: the Packers’ defensive front. So far, it’s been… meh. They had one monster game against a weak Titans offense, racking up eight sacks, but they haven’t been able to replicate that since. Losing Devonte Wyatt during the Vikings game didn’t help. He still d...

Packers Scrape By Rams in an Ugly Win Out West, and I'm Not Sorry About It

Image
The Packers snuck away with an ugly 24-19 win in Los Angeles against the Rams. Let’s break down what happened. Jordan Love kicked off the game with a bomb to Jayden Reed, followed by Josh Jacobs finally finding the end zone for his first TD of the season. But, the Packers' run defense? Yikes. Kyren Williams, the Rams’ do-it-all back, answered with a TD of his own. DEEP TO REED! #GBvsLAR pic.twitter.com/yOXJgRAz81 — Green Bay Packers (@packers) October 6, 2024 Edgerrin Cooper made his first NFL sack, forcing a Rams punt. Then, the Brett Favre 2.0 experience with Love continued—throwing a pick-six while trying to avoid a safety. The Rams botched the extra point which I’ll be honest made me feel a little better about pick-six. Cooper gets his first career full sack! #GBvsLAR pic.twitter.com/h038X9kU47 — Green Bay Packers (@packers) October 6, 2024 The Packers’ offense followed up with a drive down to the Rams’ 19-yard line where Love chucked a bad backward pass to make it third ...

NFC North Review: Vikings Surprise Early, Lions Offense is Back, Packers Playing Catch-Up, and the Bears Coaching Stinks

Image
As we hit the quarter mark of the NFL season, it's the perfect time to break down what is currently the best division in football: the NFC North. First off, the Minnesota Vikings are absolutely rolling at 4-0, beating legit teams like the 49ers, Texans, and (almost) handing the Packers a win. Kevin O'Connell is the coach of the year right now, and Sam Darnold? He's not the "seeing ghosts" version we all laughed at the past few years. He’s in the top ten in completion percentage and also tied for the most deep pass completions with Brock Purdy. The Vikings rank first in passing touchdowns and top five in yards per reception. Brian Flores can’t go unnoticed either, he has his defense locked in, they are tied for first in INTs and first in sacks. It’s impressive what they’ve done so far against the great offenses they’ve faced. They're not messing around.
