Packers Sign Trevon Diggs; Jordan Love Ruled Out Sunday vs. Vikings

Some good news and bad news ahead of the Packers matchup on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Let’s start with the good news.

Jordan Love has cleared concussion protocol and is back to practicing fully. This is massive news for the G and G, as they get their starting quarterback back just in time for the playoff push. The Packers also added some more depth at corner, signing Trevon Diggs after he was released by the Cowboys.

The Cowboys’ defense has been a disaster this season, which you could have predicted after they traded Micah Parsons to the Packers. Although Diggs’ numbers are not as pretty as some may like, the Packers defense desperately needed bodies at the corner position, especially players with experience.

Now here comes the bad news. Although Jordan Love is back to practicing fully and has cleared concussion protocol, he will not play on Sunday. I think this is a big mistake by the Packers. For starters, Love has not played in one and a half games since his injury, and they are expecting him to be at his best come the first-round playoff matchup? That is just silly. Love needs to be on the field to give this Packers team some sort of life. The vibes could not be any lower for a team that is currently on a three-game skid after a tsunami of injuries.

Instead, we do not even get to see Malik Willis play on Sunday, but Clayton Tune. Yep, I said it. Clayton Tune.

I have no problem with Clayton Tune, and I get that the Packers want to avoid an injury disaster that could possibly roll into next season. But isn’t the goal to win football games? Benching Love surely does not give this team the best chance to win. I mean, they are not even going to let him play for a half.

Love has been great this season, regardless of what the haters will say. But in-game reps do matter, and Love not playing in two and a half games, even against a defense as bad as the Chicago Bears, still makes me nervous. Especially in a playoff setting. This is just setting up for a week of nonstop hypotheticals surrounding whether Jordan Love should’ve played on Sunday or not.

I hope this Packers team proves me wrong, and I want this team to win a game before rolling into the playoffs. But Clayton Tune? Are we serious? Clayton Tune versus Max Brosmer. Once in a lifetime. You will probably never see it again. Just incredible.

If anything, a game against Max Brosmer is just what the Packers’ defense needs after getting absolutely manhandled by Derrick Henry. As for the offense, it could be ugly. We saw how much the Lions struggled against the Vikings’ pressure that defensive coordinator Brian Flores loves to send. This could be another one of those games where the Packers offensive line has not been great and they also get to feast on a third string quarterback.

We shall see. I honestly have no expectation for this game or a true prediction due to the nature of the quarterbacks and starters sitting out. At this rate, just do not get hurt and get ready to throw everything you have at the Bears or the Eagles on Super Wild Card Weekend.
