Addition by Subtraction: The Theme of the 2026 Packers Offseason So Far

Addition by subtraction. That’s the lens fans should be looking through at this 2026 Green Bay Packers offseason.

Since the start of NFL free agency today, the Packers have cut, released or traded the following players:

Rashan Gary, Malik Willis, Colby Wooden, Kingsley Enagbare, Quay Walker, and Elgton Jenkins.

To start off the day, news broke that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst would barter once again with Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

In exchange for Rashan Gary, the Cowboys traded the Packers a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.

For a player who some would say was on the verge of getting cut, the Packers still walked away with a draft pick and saved a ton of cap space this season and going forward.

Malik Willis made out big as expected, signing with the Miami Dolphins on a massive three-year, $67.5 million deal with $45 million guaranteed. Is Miami officially Lambeau South now after bringing in Jeff Hafley, Malik Willis, and John-Eric Sullivan?

The Packers also made a few additions and re-signings.

In return after trading Colby Wooden to the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, the Packers acquired veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin.

Franklin will turn 30 years old in July and led the NFL in tackles in 2024.

As expected after the Zaire Franklin trade, Quay Walker will not be returning to the Packers after agreeing to terms on a three-year, $40.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders today.

The Packers declined his fifth-year option and although they had an offer on the table before the 2025 season, still couldn't reach an agreement.

Sean Rhyan also signed a three-year extension with the Packers worth up to $39 million. Rhyan is the true Swiss Army knife of the Packers offensive line and re-signing him almost surely means he will be the starting center going forward, pending any other moves.

Fellow offensive lineman Darian Kinnard also agreed to come back to the Packers on a one-year deal worth up to $3.75 million.

Kingsley Enagbare went into today as an unrestricted free agent and signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the New York Jets.

With the loss of two edge rushers and another defensive lineman, the Packers' defensive front has become rather thin.

As of now, the Packers active defensive front includes the following:

Micah Parsons, Lukas Van Ness, Devonte Wyatt, Collin Oliver, Barren Sorrell, Warren Brinson, Karl Brooks, Nazir Stackhouse, Arron Mosby and Jonathan Ford.

There are also three reserve players listed on the roster: Dante Barnett, Anthony Campbell and Jaden Crumedy.

Outside of Micah Parsons last season, the defensive line wasn’t good enough, and with all these moves it’s clear Brian Gutekunst wants an overhaul of the position group.

The Packers also announced today that Elgton Jenkins will not be returning next season.

Jenkins is a two-time Pro Bowler and has been with the Packers for seven seasons.

With Jenkins’ release, Jordan Love is now the longest-tenured player on the Packers roster.

In just one day, the Packers reshaped their roster, cleared significant cap space, and opened the door to possibly another big move.

Keep your eyes peeled and your Schefty notifications on because there are plenty more moves to be made by the guys up at 1265 Lombardi.
