I still cannot believe that Jerry Jones let this guy go. Micah Parsons is an absolute stud, and if anybody tells you differently, they are just mad jealous. Two first-round picks and Kenny Clark? You gotta be kidding me, right? I wish we could listen to the negotiations Jerry was having with other teams, because this trade is a straight-up robbery. Just an absolute fleece job by Gutey and the Packers’ front office.
The thought that instantly came to mind when this trade happened for me personally was this: We got our Reggie. Rest in peace to a legend and Packers’ icon. This is arguably the biggest move the Packers have made since Reggie White joined them back in the ’90s. Some would say that Parsons is the best edge rusher the Packers have seen since Reggie. (It’s really not an argument)
A big factor in this deal had to be Ed Policy, the new CEO of the Packers. They haven’t been to or won a Super Bowl since 2011. The aggressive nature of this deal is unprecedented for the Packers if you look back at their history. Very seldom do you see them go for big-name free agents, even less so in trade deals. Ed Policy is really bringing a new policy and approach to how this team operates. It also should be mentioned that he is taking the two years left on Gutey and LaFleur's contracts pretty seriously. This man wants to win NOW.
That goes without saying: the Packers are ready to take the next step. Although they have the youngest roster in the NFL, they have been through battle and have experience in big games. Adding Micah Parsons isn’t just helping them get better, it’s a statement. The Packers are ready to start competing and playing in the super bowls, because that is what this franchise is built on. Championships. Hell, the trophy is even named after Vince Lombardi himself.
The Packers’ defense just got a whole lot better. Adding Parsons to the mix gives them versatility and takes the load off other guys on the field. I am most excited to see how Rashan Gary performs with Parsons on the gridiron. He’s been under a lot of scrutiny, and I think this trade just made his job a whole lot easier. Same thing for the secondary, especially Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams. You thought these guys were ballhawks last year? Wait until we see them with the pressure that Parsons and the rest of the defensive line are going to bring.
Yeah, I might be riding the high of this trade a little bit, but that’s what sports are about. The ride of the season is unlike anything else, and the anticipation for this upcoming Packers season just got even bigger. The week one matchup with Detroit is a big deal. Imagine this: the Packers decide they are going to announce the defense for this game. Last man to come out of the tunnel? Micah Parsons. Oh, and he’s also wearing number 0. (No Packers player has ever worn it) The pop that man is going to get is going to be straight out of Monday Night Raw in the late 90s to early 2000s when you heard the glass shatter.
I cannot wait to see it happen when the Packers beat the hell out of the Detroit Lions in the cathedral of football: Lambeau Field.
