Victory Monday Recap: What are the Green Bay Packers?

            Well, that was nuts.

On the last play of the game, the Packers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when Karl Brooks blocked Cairo Santos’ would-be game-winning field goal, crushing the hearts of Bears fans everywhere.

Hand up, the Packers didn’t play great. They had no business winning this game, especially with how sluggish they looked coming out of the bye week. Things started strong with an opening-drive touchdown, but from there it felt like they never got the ball again. Kudos to the Bears offense who after ridding of the cancer that was Shane Waldron, looked very competent. The Bears controlled the clock and time of possession in this game, plus Caleb Williams looked good. He made the big plays when he needed too but, bad-coaching sealed the fate of the Bears’ fate once again. Eberflus remains a walking L, and the Bears' aversion to fire a head coach midseason continues to boggle the mind.

As for the Packers, what are they? At 7-3, they’re in a solid position, but this team doesn’t scream dominance. Last year, they were 4-6 at this point, and the sky was falling. Now, they’re winning games but in an ugly fashion. Losses to the Eagles, Vikings, and Lions sting, and they still haven’t had that definitive statement win. The upcoming stretch against the 49ers, Dolphins, and Lions will reveal their true identity.

The key on offense? Josh Jacobs. If the Packers can establish their run game, Jordan Love can keep firing darts off play-action like we saw today with Christian Watson. Also, did Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks even play in this game? To be fair, the Bears’ defense stepped up, but the Packers just need more consistency offensively.

On defense, the Packers have their issues. Without Jaire Alexander, the secondary looks lost. The pass rush isn’t much better, though Rashan Gary and T.J. Slayton came through with huge sacks late. Also, how is Quay Walker still on the roster? It’s clearly not a coaching problem on defense; it’s a personnel problem.

Next up: the 49ers. Cue the PTSD from all the brutal playoff losses, but for now, enjoy this Victory Monday. The Packers are 7-3, and we don’t apologize for winning.
