Packers Make Their Biggest Splash In Free Agency Since Signing Charles Woodson In 2006 By Signing Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs
Holy
smokes!
The
Green Bay Packers are going off in free agency right now and I am all for it.
We haven’t seen this big of signings since the Packers got Charles Woodson in
2006. This is nuts.
The Packers
started free agency today by releasing David Bakhtiari who was a cornerstone of
the Packers’ offensive line for four years as an all-pro. Bakhtiari suffered a knee
injury and was never the same after the fact. It was officially time for him
and the Packers to split up after 11 years.
A lot of emotion in this. I just want to say THANK YOU Green Bay. Thank you for the last 11 years. It’s been a hell of a run. I always wanted to raise a Lombardi on Lombardi avenue, but I will never complain. I gave it my all. I always gave it my best no matter the circumstance… pic.twitter.com/dnc7gkKSAC

Immediately
after that news broke, Ian Rapoport reported that Josh Jacobs would be signing
with the Green Bay Packers. Getting Jacobs in Green Bay is huge, he led the
league in rushing two seasons ago for one of the most dysfunctional franchises
in the NFL. After an odd year in Vegas, he gets to start fresh with a stable
offense and great organization in Green Bay. I can’t wait to see what LaFleur draws
up for him.

For one moment, the Packers had the best running
back duo in the NFL with Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs side by side.
That duo lasted about as long as the rebuild
the Packers started this past season.
Following the Jacobs
signing, Adam Schefter then reported Aaron Jones was being released by the
Packers. A sad day for not just the fans, but all the guys in the locker room.
Aaron Jones was a leader and stand-up guy; nobody carried the G quite like him.
He’s going to be missed in the locker room, but will no doubt find a job with
another team. “I hope it’s not the Cowboys, that would suck.”
After reaching agreement today with free-agent RB Josh Jacobs, the Packers informed RB Aaron Jones that he is being released, per source. Jones now will be a free agent. pic.twitter.com/KsZAfhl5lW

But
Gutey wouldn’t let us dwell on Aaron Jones for too long. Instead, he decided
that we are going to sign a stud safety in Xavier McKinney from the Giants to a
massive four-year deal to fill the gap at safety we’ve been talking about since
the season ended.
I mean this guy Gutey is a magician and a genius. He’s been waiting so long to get Rodgers off the books and look at what opened up. Two stud signings on the first day of free agency, I mean that’s basically unheard of if you’re a longtime Packers fan.More Packers moves: Free-agent safety Xavier McKinney is signing a four-year, $68 million deal - a $17M per year average - with the Green Bay Packers. Agent David Mulugheta confirmed the deal. pic.twitter.com/tNy4F6YkHc

Josh Jacobs AND Xavier McKinney!?
Obviously,
it needs to translate on the field, but the Packers have loaded up to be a
contender for next season. On top of these huge signings, we still have the draft,
and the Packers have a lot of capital to work with. The position this team is
in is incredible.
Gutey in his bag! Lets goo! pic.twitter.com/Hczaupwgzr
A lot of
credit needs to be given to Brian Gutekunst surrounding all these moves. The
guy keeps a low profile and just works his magic. It’s that simple.
My gosh,
can next season start already? I have no idea what to do without football other
than play golf.
