Packers vs Cowboys Preview: Why Not Us?
(The Packers haven't lost at AT&T Stadium since its opening in 2009.) |
Everybody is asking the question; Can the Green Bay Packers knock off the Dallas Cowboys?
It’s more likely than you may think.
Although the Cowboys have been a force at home this season against bad teams,
they have struggled against teams above .500. Most recently against the Detroit
Lions, who got screwed by the refs that ended up costing them the game to the
Cowboys. The Cowboys aren’t frauds by any means, but the disrespect towards the
Packers in this game is getting out of hand.
The Packers have turned up their offense
in the second half of the season and Jordan Love has been killing it. Plus, the
Cowboys have struggled against teams who can run the football. (Insert Aaron Jones)
The last time Aaron Jones was in Dallas, he had a monster
game and ran for four rushing touchdowns against the Cowboys. If the Packers
can get Jones rolling and get up early, they have a good chance to compete in
this game.

The Packers’ offense is also dealing
with a couple of injuries. Christian Watson is listed as questionable going
into this game and AJ Dillon is doubtful. Watson didn’t play against the Bears
last week after some reports speculated that he would return in a must-win game
to make the playoffs. Watson was limited all week, so we will see if he’s up to
return in his possible playoff debut. Last year when the Packers played Dallas,
Watson had his breakout game of the season scoring three touchdowns in Lambeau
Field.
Christian Watson's 1 career game against the Cowboys:

4 catches, 107 yards, 3 TDs
Aaron Jones 3 career games against the Cowboys:
24 carries, 138 yards, 1 TD
19 carries, 108 yards, 4 TD
19 carries, 125 yards, 1 TD
The #Packers have some experienced Cowboy killers.
The big question going into this
game is how the Packers’ defense will respond to Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’
offense. It’s a reasonable question, the Packers’ defense has struggled all
year, especially against the run. Plus, they are also dealing with a key
injury. Jaire Alexander injured his ankle in practice and is listed as
questionable going into this game. Alexander is a key part of this Packers defense
who will be needed to contain all-pro receiver, Ceedee Lamb.
If the Packers' defense needs to do
anything, they need to get a turnover. We’ve all seen how Dak has performed in
the playoffs and know he could be the difference for good or worse in this game.
The Cowboys’ offense is first in the league in PPG, and the defense needs to
work to keep the ball in the hands of the Packers’ offense as much as possible
to prevent a total blowout from happening.
This is the first playoff game for a
lot of players on the Packers, more specifically on the offensive side. Jordan Love
will once again be under a microscope on the national stage and be expected to
carry a heavy load for the Packers in this game. The responses of the young
guns in this unit are going to be interesting. Besides Aaron Jones, every other
weapon on offense has not played in a playoff game yet. Will they shy away from
the bright lights, or step up to the big moment?

Another aspect of this game is the
coaching matchup. Matt LaFleur takes on former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy
who won the Super Bowl with the team back in 2011 and would be head coach until
being fired in 2018. McCarthy is a great coach but has been known to make some
questionable decisions in big moments in his career as of late. The same goes
for Matt LaFleur who has struggled in big games as well. LaFleur has a chance
to put his best coaching on display against the Cowboys with his youngest
roster in the league.

The Cowboys SHOULD win this game.
Let me say that again, the Cowboys SHOULD win this game. They have a superior
offense and defense on paper so that should make for an easy win for them,
right? Historically, we’ve seen it first-hand as Packer fans that how your team
looks on paper doesn’t matter when it comes to football in January.
So why not the Packers? Why can’t
they go into Dallas and upset the Cowgirls? This team has nothing to lose and
that is one of the most dangerous aspects a team can have come January.
Keep proving them wrong. 😤💪@CocaCola | #GBvsDAL pic.twitter.com/vtqa8fmsj7
