Packers vs. Bears Recap: The Ticket is Punched

It’s official. The Green Bay Packers have punched their ticket to the playoffs with a huge win against the Chicago Bears.

Just think about how crazy that is. At one point the Packers were 2-5 and had a stretch of games against the Chargers, Lions, and Chiefs. The odds were definitely not in their favor. Credit to Matt LaFleur for keeping this team together through the mid-season struggles and letting Jordan Love cook!

This game against the Bears wasn’t pretty by any means, but a win is a win. Costly missed calls and rulings happened on both sides of the ball which had both fan bases pretty agitated. But good teams find a way to win these games and that’s exactly what the Packers did. Jordan Love once again showed up when the lights were bright finishing this game 27/32 with 316 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns. His two best throws didn’t even count in this game and were ruled incomplete! The trust Love has in these young receivers is unique. He continues to spread the ball around the field, and it has made a difference in the second half of this season. This guy is the truth and we as Packer fans are pretty fortunate to have him as our quarterback for the future.

As for the wideouts. Dontayvion Wicks returned in this game and made an instant impact pulling in both of Love’s TD passes. Jayden Reed also had his first 100-yard receiving game this season following two key catches in the fourth quarter. You can’t forget about Bo Melton either, yes Bo Melton! Signed off of the practice squad, Melton has made the most of his opportunities in this offense late this season. The Packers also got the run game going with the spark of the offense, Aaron Jones. Jones had 22 rushes for 111 yards in this game.

Defensively, the Packers took advantage of the Bears’ weakened offensive line. The Bears were missing three guys up front and that showed as the Packers sacked Justin Fields 5 times. The Packers killed the Bears' rushing attack besides a few of Justin Field’s scrambles and also limited his passing attack. Credit to Joe Barry for coming into this game with a plan of attack to contain Fields and DJ Moore. I don’t think anyone is sold on Joe Barry, especially with this upcoming game against the Cowboys. Barry needs to come into Dallas with his best game plan of the season.

As for the Bears, they now face a tough decision. With the number 1 and 9 pick, they can either build around Justin Fields or move on. They have plenty of options credit to their general manager Ryan Poles. This was a big game for Justin Fields, and it may have been the last we will see of him in Chicago.

The Packers travel to “Jerry World” next week to take on the Cowboys at 4:25 pm EST. The main story going into this game will be surrounding the Cowboys’ head coach, Mike McCarthy. McCarthy was a part of the Packers’ most recent Super Bowl win in 2011 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There’s no doubt the Packers have exceeded their pre-season expectations. The main concern was how Jordan Love would look and he has proven that he is the guy going forward. The playoffs are just a bonus and will give us an interesting look into how the youngest team in the league reacts to the big bright lights of the NFL playoffs!
