Packers Hiring Boston College coach Jeff Hafley to Become New Defensive Coordinator

The Packers have officially announced who is taking over the open defensive coordinator job. Per Pete Thamel of ESPN, Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley will be leading the Packers’ defense next season.

This hire was definitely out of left field, and I can’t say I love it or hate it. Nonetheless, his name isn’t Joe Barry or Brandon Staley, so I think the Packers are off to a pretty good start.

One thing I’ve noticed that Hafley preaches to his defense is the importance of press-man coverage. Press-man coverage? On the Green Bay Packers’ defense? This can’t be real.

There’s definitely more to that philosophy that the Packers liked when they interviewed this guy, but you have to think that was taken into consideration heavily. The team needs a complete rebrand on defense if they want to make a run at the Super Bowl in the near future.

More news is for sure to come out about this hire, but the Packers must like what they see in Hafley considering how quickly this decision was made.
