Victory Monday: The Packers Surprise Everyone and Beat the Chiefs in Primetime

            WHAT. A. GAME.

The Packers did the unthinkable and took care of the Chiefs handily in a statement win in primetime. Yes, they took care of them handily, the Packers led from the start of this game to the very end and that is a fact.

Of course, the main topic of this game is the officiating. It’s understandable as a Chiefs fan to be angry at how the end sequence of this game was called. But in reality, you shouldn’t put yourself in a position in which you need the refs to bail you out. The Packers played extremely well all game and both sides were subjected to bad officiating. The NFL has had a problem with refs for a while and if you ask any coach in the league, they will say that this has been a problem going on for longer than you may think.

But the Packers won this game and that’s the bottom line. Jordan Love looked incredible and made multiple career-making throws in this career-making game. The last 3-4 weeks have all Packer fans feeling pretty confident that they have found their next guy. The season isn’t over yet, and Love needs to finish strong, but you can’t deny that Love is trending towards being the long-term answer in Green Bay. The guy absolutely rocks.

But it isn’t just Love that’s improved over the past month, the entire offense including the coaching staff has weathered the storm after a brutal start. Hand up, I doubted Matt LaFleur during the early struggles, but you have to give the guy credit for keeping this young team together through the struggles. So much so, that the Packers are in the playoff picture right now as we speak!

It was great to see Christian Watson have another great game after dealing with injuries to begin the season. It sucked to see him get injured towards the end of the game and hopefully, it doesn’t linger for the remainder of the season. The guy is a game-changer when healthy.

But man, this receiving core is deep, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Malik Heath?! On top of that even with Musgrave out they got Kraft and Sims? It’s insane how young this offense is and how many of these guys have stepped up. This season presented a unique opportunity for a lot of young players to get involved and even though it was ugly initially to start, they have truly risen to the occasion as of late.

Speaking of rising to the occasion, what about this Packers defense? I don’t know what Joe Barry is doing but he’s got the defense playing out of their mind. The Packers created pressure on Mahomes all night and made multiple key stops in the red zone. They forced the Chiefs to kick field goals and that made the difference in this game. Keisean Nixon came up with a clutch interception in the fourth quarter to set the Packers up with an 8-point lead.

I don’t know if I love or hate the fact that Barry has figured out this defense. The guy is proving that he should be around next season and that scares me a little bit. But I’m not going to complain if they keep winning games because winning cures everything. I would still like to see them be a little more consistent. If the Packers want to have a little playoff run, the run defense needs to tighten for the remainder of the regular season to carry into the yoffs.

The remainder of the Packers’ schedule is fairly easy. Their next game comes in primetime again against the New York Giants who have struggled this season following the loss of starting QB Daniel Jones. The Packers should handle that game and move on to face two more gross teams, the Panthers and the Buccaneers. Both teams that they should beat. To close out the season, they face two division rivals, the Vikings in week 17 without Kirk Cousins and the Chicago Bears. The Bears still suck obviously, but they have improved a lot since the first game of the season where the Packers spanked them.

This season has been a rollercoaster no doubt, but through all the adversity, Matt LaFleur has guided this team back to .500 with a very good chance of making the playoffs. It’s hard not to look ahead, but as long as these guys take each game week by week, we may be seeing playoff football during a “rebuilding year”. Now that is something not many franchises can say that they’ve done.

To close out this blog, here is a fun little clip from my guy Big Cat of Barstool Sports who is a diehard Bears fan. In this clip, he finally admits that Jordan Love is good, and the Packers have found their guy moving forward.
