Packers vs Bucs Recap: Where Do We Go From Here?

            Well, that sucked.

Two weeks ago, the Packers were on top of the world after beating the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime after resurrecting their season after a slow start. And now, they’ve gone right back to where they were before they beat the Detroit Lions.

The Packers had plenty of opportunities to adjust all game long against the Bucs’ offense, but Joe Barry refused to change ANYTHING AT ALL! It’s so frustrating, I have no idea what this guy is thinking in the booth. If we are being honest, he shouldn’t be calling plays any longer for the green and gold, but as we all know, the Packers will not be firing anyone until the season has concluded.

His conservative play-calling has killed the defense this season. It’s created bad tendencies and killed the potential of this defense which is loaded with multiple first-round draft picks. Injuries have rattled this unit no doubt, but if you have eyeballs, you’ve clearly seen how bad the play-calling has killed them this year.

But, on the other side of the ball, there is a lot to be excited about moving forward. Jordan Love performed well and made great throws under pressure all game long. The lost fumble at the end of the game wasn’t great, but the game was basically out of reach at that point. I believe Love has solidified that he’s the guy moving forward, and if he finishes these final games as he’s been playing recently, his extension will be signed as soon as he’s allowed to put the pen to paper.

As for the rest of the offense, the young weapons are extremely exciting. Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs once again stepped up in the absence of Christian Watson. But Dontayvion Wicks and Tucker Kraft were easily the stars of the show on Sunday if you watched. Kraft has come a long way since the beginning of the season and stepped up mightily in the absence of Luke Musgrave. As for Wicks, the guy lives for running through contact and has big play potential. I love his potential moving forward for this offense.

Aaron Jones was also active for this game but was clearly limited in his role on offense. I’m not sure what his role will be moving forward, Jones is clearly a difference-maker, but injuries have rattled him a ton recently. I hate to say it, but I’m not sure what his future holds going forward in Green Bay.

But, add in Watson and Musgrave, and boy this 2024 offense is going to be electric.

As for the rest of this season, the Packers still aren’t mathematically out of the playoffs, but I’d say it’s pretty unlikely that they will make it. They had a chance to solidify their spot, but it just didn’t work out that way. It’s hard to not be mad that they won’t make the playoffs but remember the expectations for this team this season. This is a young and growing team, plus Joe Barry was calling the defense, can’t forget that.

The season isn’t over yet, but they need to finish strong. Of the remaining three games, there are two division rivals in there, the Bears and Vikings. Both are teams that the Packers should beat but we know how that saying has worked so far this season. The playoffs for this team would be nice to see, but more than anything, you want to see the guys fight for wins the rest of the year if they end up being eliminated.

Up next, the Packers travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the Carolina Panthers, a truly dysfunctional franchise. Expect nothing less from Joe Barry, who will most likely make Bryce Young, who has sucked this season, look like a future hall-of-famer.
