We're Really Talking Yoffs, Who Would've Thought?

Seriously though, how did we get to this point?

The Packers were 2-5 this season after suffering losses to the Raiders and Broncos (who might be good). It felt as if the season was lost, but after winning three of their last four, they’ve rallied themselves back into the hunt for a possible playoff spot in the NFC.

It’s crazy that they’ve gotten to this point. Following their week three comeback win against the Saints, the stretch that followed got ugly pretty quickly. The offense wasn’t clicking, injuries were nagging, and there was little improvement from the team all around. The turnaround came at the perfect time, and it really says a lot about the character of this team and the franchise as a whole.

The Packers took a shot this season, they believe they have their guy in Jordan Love, but it was up to his play on the field to determine if he really is. General manager Brian Gutekunst basically said hey we believe in you, and here are the reigns, but here is the youngest offensive group in the NFL, now go do something with it. Since the beginning of the season growing pains have clearly been evident, even up to this point. But since their win against the Rams in week 9, it feels like they unlocked something offensively.

With Aaron Jones being in and out of the lineup constantly this season, the team needed a spark, and that spark was Jayden Reed. Reed has brought this offense to life and reenergized them. Love has obviously had to step up and his connection with Reed has allowed other guys like Luke Musgrave, Rome Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and most recently Christian Watson to wake up in this pass-catching group. We saw the potential from Watson last year towards the end of the season and we know Romeo Doubs can ball. But with Wicks and Reed playing the way they have been, it looks too of given Doubs and Watson the reassurance that they aren’t alone and are still big parts of the passing attack.

Not all the problems are solved by any means and Jordan Love still has to finish the season strong. But in these recent games where we’ve seen the passing game take over, it’s exciting to look forward to what this group can really do. I mean imagine this passing offense with a healthy Aaron Jones in the mix, they could really do some damage. Plus, the defense has performed very well this season considering how they have been nagged by injuries and the offenses’ lack of production early on. We may be seeing a lot of complimentary football going forward if they keep it up.

This upcoming game against the Chiefs is going to be a battle and a true test to see if this Packer passing attack can be sustained. The Chiefs’ defense so far this season has been the main reason they have won most games since they are still figuring out their offense. This matchup against the Chiefs is also a special one as they were the first team Jordan Love started against in his career in 2021 following Aaron Rodgers testing positive for COVID-19.

The game plan may also lead to the Packers having to lean heavily on the passing game again on Sunday. Aaron Jones will probably be out again, and AJ Dillon is also banged up following the win in Detroit.

There’s a lot to look forward to and it’s only Monday, but there looks to be a light at the end of the tunnel for fans of the green and gold following the most recent offensive performances.
