The Packers are Secretly Tanking

Whelp nothing new here folks, the Packers dropped another winnable game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

The Packers got run all over by the Steelers’ running back duo of Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris. Joe Barry called yet another brutal game, running two high safeties and only two down linemen, basically guaranteeing 3-4 yards every play. He can’t keep getting away with this right? The Packers have to be secretly tanking if they are allowing this guy to keep calling plays for them on the defensive side of the ball.

It’s frustrating no doubt, but the offensive side of the ball finally showed some progress. Jordan Love made a lot of great throws and almost broke the 300-yard mark for the first time in his career. The Packers needed Love to perform, running the ball just wasn’t working and he was able to move the rock with his arm for a good portion of the game. This game marked a step in the right direction for Love. Although the game ended with a Love interception, Packer fans should be thankful that we saw significant growth in his game.

Romeo Doubs scored again on Sunday marking his 6th touchdown of the season while Jayden Reed was the top target of the day coming in with 5 receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. Reed is having a great rookie season and is progressing nicely; his production has been much needed since Christian Watson hasn’t been at all what he was expected to be this season. Criticism for Watson is fair, but he’s only in year two, and I’m sure we all remember a guy who wore 17 and struggled his first two seasons wearing the green and gold but turned out to be pretty good. Not saying Watson will get to that level, but don’t count him out yet.

The recap of this game is the same as any other week this year, the Packers had opportunities to capitalize on to win this game and came up short in the end. Defensively, I would have much rather taken the risk and lost to Kenny Pickett than get emasculated and ran all over by Warren and Harris. It’s been a constant issue trying to stop the run and we shouldn’t expect a whole lot to change because Joe Barry is going to be in the booth for the remainder of the season. After all, that is the Packer way, we don’t fire coordinators or coaches mid-season.

Green Bay is still injured and missing a lot of key players. On the defensive side of the ball, Jaire Alexander, Quay Walker, Rudy Ford, and Darnell Savage are all guys the Packers need back desperately if they have any hope of a playoff push. As of right now, the Packers sit with the same record they had a season ago at 3-6.

Next week Green Bay gets to play the most cursed and underwhelming team in the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have a lot of offensive weapons that could be a recipe for disaster, but as we have seen so far this season from them, even with all that production, it hasn’t amounted to jack in their win column.

It isn’t over yet guys, there’s a whole lotta ballgame left. If the offense can make strides for the rest of the season like this game and the defense gets healthy, there is still a shot to make the yoffs.
