Packers vs. Rams Sunday Preview

The Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams face off in a game Sunday that features two teams that pretty much stink. The Packers are on a four-game losing streak while the Rams have lost two in a row. Both teams are also dealing with injuries this Sunday, the Rams especially have a big concern on their report.

The most impactful injury this Sunday comes from the Rams who have quarterback Matthew Stafford listed as questionable after suffering a thumb injury on his throwing hand last week. Although Stafford is not expected to play, don’t be surprised if he is on the field Sunday. Stafford is a very tough player and is going to do whatever he can to get on the playing field.

For the Packers, Quay Walker and Rudy Ford are both listed as questionable after not practicing on Friday. Aaron Jones practiced all week while wearing the red “no contact” jersey giving hope to Packer fans that he will handle the rock a ton on Sunday. Will he get the ball more? Who knows, as of right now it seems Matt LaFleur hates Aaron Jones.

The Packers’ defense on Sunday will have an even harder task after the Rasul Douglas trade to the Buffalo Bills. The secondary is now stretched thin after the departure of the Packers’ best cornerback so far this season and also with a few others on the injured reserve. Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are both extremely talented playmakers for the Rams who have the potential to tear up the underachieving Green Bay defense.

As for the offense, I am extremely concerned for Jordan Love’s well-being this Sunday. With how the offensive line has played this season, Aaron Donald has to be drooling at the opportunity to play against this unit.

What do the Packers need to do this Sunday to compete in this game? Well first off, they need to start the game quicker and not dig themselves into a hole they can’t get out of in the second half. The play in the first half of every game this season has been abysmal along with the coaching. Get the little things right first, and then start looking at the bigger picture.

A guy like Christian Watson who has crazy potential needs to show he can go up and bring down a contested ball. It’s not even the playmaking that is so important, it’s the mindset and aggressiveness that we want to see.

As for the defense, bring the pressure. It’s simple, pressure the quarterback and make it extremely difficult to throw the football. Even if Stafford isn’t playing, the weapons that the Rams have at wideout are still a huge threat. The young players in the Packers’ secondary are going to be tested and they need all the help they can get from the big boys up front.

To be honest, any outcome from this game isn’t going to be surprising. We know for the most part what we are getting with this team. They are young, they are going to make mistakes, and are going to start slow. All we can hope for is that the preparation during the week has changed and the coaching staff takes a different approach.

The Packers need a win this Sunday badly, after losing four in a row, they need a little momentum to carry into the second half of the season. We also need to see some growth even in the slightest form considering how young this team is.
