Packers Stun the Lions in Statement Win on Thanksgiving

            What...a…game!

Who would’ve thought the Packers would take care of the Lions handily on Thanksgiving? There was definitely a little optimism going into this game, but who could’ve seen this coming? The Lions beat up the Packers back in week four and Green Bay completely flipped the script on them this time around. The Packers looked great in all facets of their game on Turkey Day, complimentary football was everywhere!

Jordan Love played arguably the best game of his career today. The Lions’ secondary is definitely an issue, but Love did what he was supposed to do and diced them up all game long. Matt LaFleur finally let Jordan Love cook and it paid off heavily for the Packers. Love threw the ball in multiple tight windows, including his first touchdown pass of the game to rookie stud Jayden Reed.

Love also hit Tucker Kraft for his first NFL touchdown this game and also Christian Watson who finally broke out in this game. The receiving core is finally coming together, it wasn’t easy getting to this point by any means, but I think the Packers have found their guys of the future going forward.

The unsung heroes of this game were the offensive line. In week four, Aiden Hutchinson made Jordan Love and the offense’s night miserable all game long. Not in this game though, Hutchinson was basically a non-factor the whole game kudos to how well the line played. We’ve trashed them a lot this season, but since Love has started to drop back more, they have stepped up their play as well.

On the defensive side of the ball, the player of the game was Rashan Gary. One year ago, Rashan Gary tore his ACL on the turf of Ford Field and was lost for the remainder of the 2022 season. Gary returned to Ford Field today and had the game of his career, racking up 3 sacks on quarterback Jared Goff. Gary is a game wrecker and is the cornerstone of the defense, it’s exciting to know that he’s going to be wearing the green and gold for a while now after signing his contract extension a few weeks ago.

The defense as a whole showed out, even with a very injured secondary and De’Vondre Campbell, they made the Lions work for every yard they got all game long. They forced multiple turnovers in this game including a fumble recovery by Johnathan Owens for a defensive touchdown. Joe Barry has gotten a lot of hate this season deservedly so, but you have to give him his flowers after this game. The defense was down multiple pieces in the secondary and Barry worked with what he had to hold down the fast-paced Lions offense.

So, what’s in store for the rest of the season?

Up next the Packers face an even bigger challenge against the Kansas City Chiefs in Lambeau Field next Sunday. With all the momentum from this win against the Lions, what’s stopping the Packers from stealing another one against the Chiefs? The Packers’ remaining schedule isn’t a cakewalk by any means, but if they win this next one against the Chiefs, the remaining schedule looks very friendly for the Packers who have a chance to make a run at the yoffs.

Yes, it’s that time of the year, and we are talking yoffs.

Also, I along with other Packer fans should have a bone to pick with NFL on Fox. Where was the turkey leg for Jordan Love or Rashan Gary after the game? This is Thanksgiving football in honor of the late, great John Madden. He’d be disappointed to see that the Packers didn’t get to celebrate their huge win accordingly on Thanksgiving.

The future looks really bright in Green Bay and the remainder of this season holds possibilities that we couldn’t even imagine after the start the Packers had the beginning of this season.
