The First Injury Report is Out; Should Packer Fans Be Worried?
Whelp, the injury report came out yesterday for the Packers
and does not offer much excitement at all.
There are a lot of big names in the report but some of them
were to be expected heading into week one.
As of Wednesday, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are both
dealing with hamstring injuries. Both were listed as non-participants in
practice.
Bahktiari and Rashan Gary are the
two names I expected to be in the report this week. Bahktiari is working to get
through a full season since his ACL in December of 2020 and Gary is going to be
on a pitch count for Sunday's game.
The other two names included are safety Anthony Johnson Jr. (knee), listed as a full participant in practice, and WR Dontayvion Wicks (hamstring), listed as limited participation.
What do these injuries mean for Green Bay?
It would be a devastating blow for the Packers offensively if they lose Doubs and Watson for the opening game. Especially in Jordan Love's case, it would make the load far heavier than it already is offensively. I expect at least one of the two to be on the field in Chicago.
The Packer offensive line play has been solid, even with
Bahktiari being in and out of the lineup since 2020. I expect him to be fully
back and prepared for Sunday to lead the front five.
Rashan Gary is going to be a force with the time he gets, but it's easy to understand a safety play by the Packers to ensure Gary is ready for a full
return this season.
The Packers' edge rushing unit has a solid rotation with
Preston Smith, Kingsley Enagbare, and rookie Lukas Van Kness. Even with limited
plays from Gary, it shouldn't hurt the defense to the point of no pressure at
all.
Overall, it's only a Wednesday injury
report. There is a lot of time until Sunday at 4:25 EST. A lot can change with
how these guys feel.
