Packers vs. Bears Week One Recap

Packers vs. Bears Week One Recap

The Green Bay Packers are officially 1-0 after easily handling the Bears as their season-opening opponent! The Packers showed out, no doubt about that, all the hype and trash talk from this offseason leading up to this game lived up to the hype. From Jordan Love to the Packer defense, I think they showed everyone that this team is FOR REAL.

When the Packers kicked off in the first quarter, the defense came out and set the tone early. I don’t know what most Packer fans were thinking, but the energy coming from the defense on the first drive felt super energetic. The defense set the tone with an opening 4th down stuff on Justin Fields to start the game and set up how this game would play out.

Jordan Love then trotted onto the field as the Packers' first season starter besides Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre. Although the drive ended in a touchdown from Love to Romeo Doubs, Aaron Jones was the most essential part to kick off the drive handling the football five times to set up Green Bay in the redzone.

After the opening drive score, the Packers wouldn’t score again in the first half besides a field goal heading into halftime. The most noticeable difference from the offense after the first drive was Aaron Jones not getting the football. The story of the first half and arguably the whole game was the Green Bay defense. Although some missed tackles allowed the Bears to get some field goals, they ended up holding Justin Fields’ offense to only 6 first-half points.

The start of the third quarter played out like a movie, Aaron Jones got multiple touches that led to the Packers' second touchdown of the game. The defense opened the second half with a sack on Justin Fields from Devonte Wyatt, which resulted in a punt. Following the stop, Jordan Love threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Jones, extending the Packers' lead over the Bears. The Bears' next score then came on a Fields touchdown pass to Darnell Mooney.

The fourth quarter opened, and the Packers went into overdrive. Jordan Love commanded the offense and threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Romeo Doubs. The next Packer score came on a pick-six by Quay Walker who was shaking off Bears defenders like he was running through a group of small children. The Bears ended the game with a touchdown by Roschon Jones with a failed 2-point attempt.

Overall, the Packers as a team came out firing on all cylinders. Jordan Love’s composure in the pocket was calm and collected throughout the whole game kudos to the Packers’ offensive line performance.

A couple of players who flew under the radar were Darnell Savage and Luke Musgrave. Savage led the defense with 10 total tackles and Musgrave hauled in three catches for 50 yards. The pass rush from Green Bay resulted in 4 sacks and multiple pressures.

The Packers have indicated in this game alone that they have weapons, even without Christian Watson being on the field. Jones and Doubs were the clearcut stars of this game, but the young guys like Jayden Reed and Luke Musgrave played a huge factor in this game.

This is a new era for Green Bay football as you could visibly see by the youth and energy that was on display. Expect the Packers to shock a lot of teams this season.
