Packers Injuries Headed into the Weekend

The Friday injury report heading into the Packers home opener against the New Orleans Saints.

A great site to see today at practice was Aaron Jones and Christian Watson on the field with the team but only as limited participants. Jones also hit the field Thursday as a limited participant, Watson did not. With Jones having two straight practices under his belt consecutively to end the week, Jones' availability on Sunday isn’t a given but far more likely than last week.

Christian Watson was quoted this week saying, "I'm fighting just as much of a mental battle as I am physical battle... I want to play football, I don't want to watch football." A little bit of a red flag from Watson saying he doesn’t want to watch football, but we’ll let it slide this time. But on a real note, I hope to see Watson on the field Sunday. He’s been battling this injury since the season started and he’s too big of a factor for this offense to not be on the field.

David Bakhtiari sat out all week as expected, but Matt Lafleur during his press conference seemed a bit agitated when the topic of Bakh’s knee came up. Look, the swelling in his knee is going to be an issue for the rest of his career. The status of Bakh is always going to be up in the air, but on Sunday I could see him not playing or in limited action in preparation for a short week against Detroit.

A few defensive players are listed as questionable going into Sunday. Rookie edge rusher Lukas Van Ness was a limited participant all week after exiting Sunday’s game against the Falcons with an elbow injury. Jaire Alexander popped up on the report this week with a back injury after not being listed after Wednesday and Thursday’s practice.

With Van Ness practicing all week I’d say the likelihood of him being available Sunday is the highest out of all others in the report. Jaire on the other hand, could be a toss-up. Being added to the report late isn’t the greatest sign, but especially after his performance against Atlanta, there is no doubt he wants to get on that field and put on a show.

Unfortunately listed as out for Sunday’s game are safety Zayne Anderson and guard Elgton Jenkins. Jenkins’ injury to his knee came in during the game against the Falcons. This injury could last a couple of weeks and is going to require the other Packer offensive lineman to step up in upcoming games.

Overall, I think Van Ness, Jaire, and Jones are the most likely to see on the field Sunday. Bakh and Watson I find least likely to see on the field, more so Watson. These injuries are going to play a big role in the short week the Packers have, thankfully both Sunday’s game and Thursday's game are at Lambeau Field.
