Is This a Make or Break Season for Matt LaFleur?

Is Matt LaFleur going to be on the hotseat after this season?

Some may say so, but others might look at the regular season record he's put together in his first four years and say differently.

His regular season record of 47-19 might be the only fact some may need to justify his position, especially after the difficulties of last season. LaFleur maintains a winning percentage of .712.

The postseason is also something that needs to be mentioned.

When you win 13 games in three straight seasons, at least one Super Bowl appearance should’ve been made.

The Packers have underachieved in the playoffs the last three years they've made it with LaFleur. The two NFC championship losses and the brutal loss to San Francisco in 2022 are just three more “Vietnam flashbacks” for Packer fans in our history of playoff football.

No, I’m not saying every playoff loss is completely LaFleur’s fault, but he is the head coach of this football team. There were plenty of miscues and errors that can be pointed directly at the coaching staff that were visible throughout those regular seasons.

Most notably, the 2022 special-teams unit who was the absolute worst in the league. I mean they were so bad. Every Packer fan could clearly see it all season long!

That is LaFleur’s current legacy as a head coach in the postseason as it stands. But I believe his window in Green Bay is probably larger than we think.

With Jordan Love at QB, nobody knows what to expect. But if this season proves he isn’t the guy, LaFleur might be gifted a new window with the Packers if they end up with a rookie quarterback in 2024.

That is where I believe LaFleur would buy his time unless the Packers exceed the expectations this season made by the national media.

Now, obviously Green Bay isn’t looked at as a contender anymore since Aaron Rodgers departure, but if Green Bay makes the playoffs this season, in my eyes, I think the job is secure for LaFleur.

In the end, I think there are multiple situations in which LaFleur is more likely to remain head coach for the green and gold than not.

Real Packer fans know.🧀
