Why You Should Want the Packers to Win Against the Lions

Why should you want the Packers to beat the Lions this Thursday? It’s pretty simple honestly. There are two sides of the spectrum that I think football fans in general, including Packer fans, can jump on ahead of this game.

On one hand, you want the Packers to make the playoffs. The Lions are a wagon this season and will surely run away with the NFC North title.  But a win for the Packers would raise their likelihood of playing in January even more. The two toughest games they have remaining are against the Chiefs and Lions. If Green Bay can win one of those games and win out the remainder of their schedule, the chances of getting bonus Packer football will skyrocket.

Plus, a win would be good for the rivalry and would be a nice little spoiler to the Lions' season. The Lions haven’t won the NFC North in a long time, so why not be the only divisional opponent loss that they may have this season?

On the other hand, if you are a hater and despise the Packers, you should want them to win as many games as possible. The Packers aren’t guaranteed a playoff spot if they win out and if they do miss out on that 7th seed just barely, the Packers will be in purgatory for a season or longer and not have a high draft pick. Plus, you as a hater would get to make fun of the Packers and say that they suck and have no draft pick.

It’s a win-win situation for both sides when you look at it. When the Packers aren’t in the playoffs, it just doesn’t feel the same. Whether you like them or not, you’re crazy if you wouldn’t rather have Jordan Love and the Packers in playoffs this season over other teams like the Vikings, Rams, Falcons, Bucs, and yea… that list sucks.

Also, if the Bears could almost beat Detroit, who’s saying the Packers can’t? We all know the Packers are banged up and won’t have Aaron Jones. But the Lions' pass defense isn’t as crazy as you think it is. I expect to see a completely different Jordan Love this time around than we did on Thursday Night Football last time these two teams faced off. If Love can win this game, his stock will rise even more than it has in the last few games.

They’re not mathematically eliminated yet, so why not leave it all out on the field this Thursday against Detroit and throw a nice ole’ W in the win column? I know, he's not a the team anymore, but here's a nice little clip of Aaron Rodgers talking about past 4-6 teams going on a run to end the season.
